About Creative Writing for Teens
Joyce Carol Oates:
The practicing writer, the writer-at-work, the writer immersed in his or her project, is not an entity at all, let alone a person, but a curious melange of wildly varying states of mind, clustered toward what might be called the darker end of the spectrum: indecision, frustration, pain, dismay, despair, remorse, impatience, outright failure.

About Creative Writing for Teens
J.R.R. Tolien:
Creative Fantasy is founded upon the hard recognition that things are so in the world as it appears under the sun; on a recognition of fact, but not a slavery to it.

For all my longer works (i.e the novels) I write chapter outlines so I can have the pleasure of departing from them later on.

About Creative Writing for Teens
At last the latest fiction from the slush file:
  • Omen by Karissa M.
Every other Saturday, a group of thirty or so 15, 16 and 17 year-olds convened in the Anglican Church on Main Street.
  • Happy End of the Everything by IAmBensNetName. GUIDE FAVE!
All the magazines and newspapers were billing it as the biggest party of the . . . ever.
  • Shushing The Beacon by RibcageRomance.
i never didn't believe in love. i never went out on that limb which said love didn't exist. i sometimes said that love didn't want me, or that i was not meant for love.
  • Artificial Living by Emily Jewer.
Catherine stood by the food programmer while it prepared the tea and scones. Laughter from the visiting neighbourhood housewives wafted in from the back yard as the weekly meeting was coming to an end, and so chitchat laced with a few scandalous rumours of the neighbourhood goings-on commenced.
Next up is poetry.

Here are the latest non-fiction submissions that made it through the selection process:
  • Rambling by Willy K.
Constant movement, I cannot sit still, the blank screen stares back at me, taunting me. A quarter to one right now though it doesn't matter.
  • Distance by Aleli Gaddi Roselo.
As a homecoming present, I stayed up late last night and drew a funny caricature of my best friend Aya.
  • The Pain Inside by Monahan.
Her stare was devouring every inch of my confidence. It was driving bullets of icy fear into my head. Her sneers were deafening, bouncing off the bleeding walls of my mind.
  • The Senses of Chrismas Season by Helene.
The outside, growing increasingly cold, reminds me of the quickly approaching Christmas. The quietness of the outdoors causes me to feel isolated.
Enjoy!

About Creative Writing for Teens
Mary Gentle:
. . . it matters that I get it right. That a sword weighs this much, and cuts like that, even if it's being handled by a six-foot talking Rat. That the logical consequences of there being five points of the compass (still all 90° apart) in the city at the heart of the world -- just try drawing the frontispiece map to that! -- are followed through. Naturally the hero keeps getting lost.

A good novel gets under our skin, provokes us and haunts us long after the first reading, because we never fully understand the characters.
